Doxycycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic with bacteriostatic action.
It is active against Many of Gram +ve & Gram-ve bacteria, certain Mycoplasma, Chlamydia, Rickettsia and Protozoa. It is not effective against Viruses, Yeasts and Fungi, Like other tetracycline antibiotics.
Doxycycline inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome,
As a result,It prevents binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the mRNA-ribosome complex.
The in-vitro activity of doxycycline against germs that cause respiratory infections in the
Pig is much more pronounced than other classic tetracyclines.
There is complete cross-resistance with other antibiotics of the tetracycline group.

Colibacillosis caused by E-coil.
